Marriage on 16th, martyrdom on 22nd: Navy officer's wife gives last salute to the coffin

26-year-old Lieutenant Vinay Narwal and his wife Himanshi Narwal went to Kashmir for their honeymoon just a few days after their marriage. But this trip full of happiness turned into a tragic story in a few moments.

Marriage on 16 April, martyrdom on 22 April

Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, a resident of Karnal, Haryana, got married to Himanshi on April 16. The reception was held on the 19th and on April 21, the newlyweds left for Kashmir. The next day, on April 22, they were enjoying Bhelpuri in the beautiful valleys of Baisaran, located near Pahalgam, when a terrorist shot Lieutenant Narwal in the head.

Himanshi's life was torn apart before her eyes. Her face was covered in blood. In a video, she cries and says, "We were eating bhelpuri when a man came and shot my husband."

Last farewell in Delhi

On April 23, Lieutenant Narwal's body was brought to Delhi. Himanshi stood near his coffin, hugged him and cried profusely. Then suddenly she composed herself, stood up straight and proudly saluted her martyred husband, saying "Jai Hind".

She repeatedly bent down in front of the coffin and kept saying, "It is because of people like them that the world is running. We should be proud of them in every way."

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was also present there. She also saluted the martyr and met Himanshi and expressed her condolences.

Desire to serve since childhood

Lieutenant Narwal's grandfather, Havaldar Hawa Singh (BSF retired), told NDTV that Vinay wanted to join the army since childhood.
"When he was young and saw military vehicles, he would ask me a lot of questions," he said.

Hawa Singh said that he had tried to dissuade Vinay from this difficult path because he himself had seen the conditions during his service in BSF and Haryana Police.
“I had told him, don't go this way, it is very difficult. But he did not listen.”

He joined the Navy two years ago

Lieutenant Narwal joined the Indian Navy two years ago after being selected directly through the SSB (Services Selection Board). He was promoted to Lieutenant 18 months ago. He was currently posted in Kochi.

He was martyred in a terror attack that killed 26 people, including an Intelligence Bureau officer. Baisaran, also known as 'Mini Switzerland', became a land of mourning that day.

Now no one can bring it back...

Hawa Singh says, "Nothing can be done now. But we are proud of him. He was a true patriot and served the country till the end."
